Official: Southwest starts LGA 6/28/09 5-MDW, 3-BWI
Southwest Airlines announced on Monday its first full foray into New York, beginning with service from La Guardia Airport in June.
Southwest, which has been inching toward serving New York City for several years, plans to start low-fare service to Chicago Midway Airport and Baltimore-Washington International Airport on June 28, company officials said on Monday.

Seems WN was able to squeeze another slot somewhere. So now 8 Flights a day, 5 to MDW and 3 to BWI, should provide perfect amount of connections beyond those two cities.

Is there any chance we will get to see the special scheme 737s serving LGA, or are they only flying in certain regional areas?

Not only that, but I would expect a NY-related scheme on an aircraft as well.

I'm surprised WN hasn't done a NY scheme yet perhaps now they will. Big Apple One!

so they can't really "expand" since all they have are the old ATA gates right? Didn't ATA fly to a variety of destinations from LGA?

They plan on expanding. Once they get in the door they can buy slots becoming available. Also there 10% of the slots get thrown into a pool for bid.
