Bird strikes take place everyday as do go arounds, near misses, engine failures, and various other MX and events dealing with nature. The media will jump on anything right now as they did right after the BA777 engines failed to print a story. Its part of the risk we take when we get on a plane and most of the time it’s a none issue. The sky's are not our domain and when you enter an environment that is inhabited by its natural residents some kind of interaction is going to take place.
