the great 767 landing gear mystery
I've been curious for a while, and even captains on the 767 can't explain it whom I've talked to. Does anyone have any idea why the landing gear bogies on the 767 are pitched forward (the leading wheels touch down first on landing) whereas the bogies on say a 757 or 777 are pitched the opposite way? A nickel for your thoughts.
Re: the great 767 landing gear mystery
that's the way they need to fit into the MLG bay when they're retracted.
Re: the great 767 landing gear mystery
according to an old book i have written by an TWA Mech, he claims that boeing realized that the wheels wouldn't fit in around some ducts so instead of redesigning the whole thing someone came up with the idea to tilt the wheels forward....
Re: the great 767 landing gear mystery
thanks for the input, it seems to make sense, though I wonder why they wouldn't carry over some design features from the 757 or 777 for the gear. Interesting nonetheless.
