FAA System Breakdown Causing Nationwide Delays

ATLANTA (AP) - The Federal Aviation Administration says a communication failure at a Georgia facility that processes flight plans for the eastern half of the U.S. is causing flight delays around the country.
FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen says there are no safety issues and officials are still able to speak to pilots on planes on the ground and in the air.

Tampa landing and departing still !!!
Re: FAA System Breakdown Causing Nationwide Delays
according to the FAA's Airspace System Status page the outage seems to be affecting only ATL, ORD and SNA. of course IAH is in SWAP and EWR in a delay program for arrival demands, JFK for departure volume and LGA for weather (winds are at a whopping 5 knots.)

A UA 744 landed at JFK yesterday, did this have something to do with it?

Not likely as this only affected departures, not airborne flights. This actually has happened before as recently as last week. One night last week were getting only half of the flight plans because of the computer problem in Atlanta. I also remember it happening 2 or 3 times in the last year as well.

The flight was UA9885 from PEK... I believe the flight was some sort of charter, possibly having to do with bringing reporters/team back to New York?

Most likely.
