Fatal Medevac Mid-Air In Arizona
This happened Sunday in Flagstaff, Arizona as two EMS copters, both Bell 407s, from different companys were minutes out from landing at Flagstaff Medical Center with patients onboard when they struck each other and plunged to the ground. Six were killed in this horrific accident and one flight nurse actually survived but is in extremely grave condition. The weather at the time was sunny and clear as one copter was coming in from the east and the other from the south.

In the luckiest man alive category.....a flight paramedic on one of the doomed aircraft was actually dropped off at a local airport because of
weight concerns and the helicopter then continued enroute to the hospital.

If they had not dropped him off there would have been no colision due different timing.

Pretty crazy and sad to hear... Are helos equipped with TCAS or something similar?

THey could be if the company can afford it. I know lots of the corporate copters here in the NE have it.

Oh ok cool. I know some of them have it because we'll occasionally get RA's out at airfields that helos frequent, but I wasn't sure if it was an industry standard thing... Unfortunate the helos in this case didn't seem to have it....
