Never Forgotten

I would like to introduce the NYCA community to my friend Carlos Lillo. Carlos was a Paramedic assigned to an Astoria FDNY EMS unit. On September 11th, 2001 Carlos' unit was assigned to World Trade Center incident. Carlos was worried because his new wife Cecilia worked for the Port Authority in Tower 1. Carlos did his job and treated many patients that morning but when he couldn't contact Cecilia he had to go in and find her. Cecilia was able to get out but couldn't contact Carlos on his cell phone. Carlos never made it out.

I went to Long Island City High School with Carlos. When he joined Astoria Volunteer Ambulance I trained him, years later in NYC*EMS I was his boss out of Elmhurst Hospital.

Carlos was one of the best Paramedics and gentleman I have ever known. He cared for people and gave 200%.

I have the above photo hanging at my desk and often look at it to remind me why I now do what I do. Carlos and hundreds of other emergency personnel gave their lives and continue to lose their lives so other could live.

On this anniversary I ask that you remember these heroes.

R.I.P. He gave the ultimate sacrifice for us. Much like the vets I thank every Dec 7th he deserves our thanks. We wouldn't be the country we are without these individuals.

I knew Carlos from his days covering the Glendale-Ridgewood area.
He was a gentleman and he will be remembered.

Hope you don't mind my mentioning another man that deserves remembering, but firefighter Michael J. Elferis, from Engine 33, went into Tower 2 that day and did not survive. I played hockey with him in College Point, and now that area of 130th Street near the rink has been renamed in his memory.

He was a great guy to all who knew him.

Keith Fairben, Mario Santoro, Jimmy Pappageorge, Richie Allen, Mitch Wallace, Tommy and Pete Langone, Moira Smith, Yamel Merino and all of the other selfless first responders that unknowingly became foot soldiers that day. You will never be forgotten and you are all sorely missed!!! Thank You to all of the men and women who fight for the freedoms we enjoy every day. NEVER FORGIVE......NEVER FORGET!!!!!

My old neighborhood. Born, raised in the Ravenswood projects. A buddy of mine in work used to
work in AVAC and knew Carlos.

And Manny Mojica and the guys from Squad 18 FDNY. Manny was a Ravenswood boy and a close
family friend.
