Atlantic Southeast Loses On-Time Race Yet Again

A solid 46 out of every 100 Atlantic Southeast flights were late in July, according to just released DOT stats. They also led the industry in mishandled baggage claims, with 15.45 out of every 1,000 customers. US Airways maintained the top spot in the most complaints category.

Hawaiian had the best on-time record. Overall, of the 20 airlines surveyed, including Southwest, American, jetBlue and others, only 69 out of 100 flights were on time in July.

To add to this EWR was again the most delayed airport for arrivals :shock:

Just looked at FlightAware for departures out of EWR for a 1 hour period and noticed the following:
4 @ 1455
3 @ 1500
2 @ 1505
2 @ 1510
4 @ 1515
6 @ 1520
3 @ 1525
5 @ 1530
5 @ 1535
3 @ 1540
2 @ 1550
4 @ 1555

Now...I'm sure they are not using every runway for departure, so there is no way that all 6-1520 departures leave on time, nor will the 10 departures that leave between 1530-1540. Figure that in good weather you can depart 1 per minute this is a schedule that just screams for delays. I'm sure the same goes down in ATL with DAL & ASA & Comair all trying to push tin faster than is logistically possible.

I am not suprised, Idle tells me all the time about how bad the ASA system is as far as reliability for on time and cancelled flights.
