Looking at Air India's schedule for BOM-LHR-JFK, starting September 8 the 744 is replaced by a 777. But then in mid/late-October it goes back to 744.
Does anyone know what's going on? Is the 777 sub possibly for 744 maintenance/re-paint?

I don't have an answer but on a side note they have switched to the 747 from the 777 at EWR a few days this week
I'd imagine the 777-200 that until recently was doing CDG-EWR will go to LHR-JFK.
The 747-400 is probably going in for a mx check up or something.
Although this probably isn't the case it would be nice if instead of the 777-200 we got the new 777-300ER!
When I was at JFK I saw 2 Air India planes. (Aug 18th). I think i saw information for a nonstop Mumbai flgiht. Also, to 777 was new colors. Too bad i did not get a good shot. (check page 27 of the daily JFK report)
Matt, Air India launched nonstop flights to BOM on August 1st with their new 777-200LR while still keeping their BOM-LHR-JFK flight with the 747-400. Towards the afternoon you will see both aircraft parked at Terminal 4, however the 777-200LR would be on a hardstand.
Alright guys get down to JFK as it seems like this is the week when the 747-400 will be subbed out for the 777-200. It appears that it will actually be a mix of the -200 and the -200LR.
