Has a 707 ever visited LGA? I would assume so. I've had a tough tiem finding proof though.
However, a friend send me a link to this slide, of a 707 there.

Definitely an effort to keep 707s out of LGA..
We can now add the 707 to the Caravelle and Convair 880 as visitors to LGA.
Still the rumor of the 747 visit around 1970 or so....
I have a feeling whoever started the 707 rumor switched the center Boeing number. In fact, I heeard that the 747 was Pan am.....perhaps they really meant 707 and we finally found the piece to the puzzle!
i'm looking out my office window right now, can't really recognise the skyline though one of the buildings above the center of the airplane looks like one on the horizon right now. anyone know who took the pic?
I was wondering about the background as well, but I really can't say one way or another.
If any old times can identify the signage we can see below the tail, as LGA (or elsewher) we could probably nail it down.

Old school, but that looks like College Point inthe background to me. The building int he middle of the plane looks like St. Agnes High School. The buildings to the far left do look like some of the brick buildings near the Canada Dry (Coke) factory, and those blue buildings shouldbe part of Edo.
i have to concede, until proven otherwise i can't help but accept that this pic was taken in LGA. i wonder if the FAA keeps records of movements from back in the day...
As a five year old in 1970 Brooklyn I remember seeing the last of the turbo props passing over Park Slope on their way to LGA. One day, I noticed a four engine jet heading there, I wonder if that is the airplane.
The slide was apparently taken in 1983.
The gentleman selling it is perhaps from Zurich?
Phil - blow up that image.. I am not familiar with the High School, but the building of the plane looks like a condo/project of the type we see in Coney Island, more so than a school doesn't it?

I too remember the last of the pistons (Convair),and those ancient Eastern Electras going into LGA in the 60's-70's. I also remember seeing a 707 or 720 in that flow for LGA.Quote:

In fact, I can't find anything that would suggest that town being College Point, except for the brick buildings onthe far left, which look like any one of the factories on 14th Avenue.
Could it be this was not taken at LGA after all? No other direction around the airport would afford a photo with such a background.
You know it really frustrating.. LOL...I want to believe its LGA from and odd angle somehow, but it doesn't quite look liook like it. I'd guess if it is LGA that 707 would've been tucked away in a corner somewhere..Quote:

A CS Steel Supply does exist, but in Cambodia. Maybe College Point's been renamed? haha

Actually, I think that says "US Steel Supply" They were a division of US Steel, which is the logo next to it - USS in the circle.Quote:
