25 Passengers Injured in Flight Incident
Twenty-five passengers on a Taiwanese carrier’s plane were injured yesterday after the plane dived violently to avoid an aircraft.
Flight EF306 of Far Eastern Air Transport was trying to land at Jeju International Airport around 11:20 a.m., when it suddenly made an emergency dive, shaking the aircraft severely.
As a result of the drop in altitude, 25 people suffered injuries, including fractures _ passengers who had not fastened their seatbelts banged their heads against the cabin ceiling, while baggage in overhead bins fell on others, witnesses said. The injured passengers were taken to nearby hospitals after landing.
Some passengers said an announcement was made that the plane had dived to avoid another aircraft. Flight attendants said that initially they did not know exactly what had happened, but that a pilot told them the flight dived to avoid a plane.
Airport authorities in Cheju (Jeju) said the incident was not caused by wind sheer, or clear air turbulence, and that they were investigating what actually happened.
The plane carrying 129 passengers departed Taipei at 8:40 a.m. No Korean passengers were aboard.
