Delta Rolls Out Pink Plane
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and for Atlanta-based Delta, the sky is the limit.
Rolling out of Delta’s hanger on Thursday at Hartsfield-Jackson will be a special addition to the carrier’s worldwide fleet.
A bright pink Boeing 757 painted by Delta’s own technical services group declaring the carriers strong commitment to support breast cancer research. It replaces a similar aircraft painted last year for Delta carrier Song.
“Breast cancer impacts so many lives, including lives of Delta employees that we couldn’t bear to see the beautiful pink airplane for Song go, so we made the decision to paint the Delta airplane the same exact airplane in this beautiful new livery to continue the fight against breast cancer,” said Joanne Smith, vice-president of marketing for Delta.
Delta says the cost of the project is between $20,000 and $30,000, but it has involved hundreds of the airline’s employees along the way.
The greatest impact of the project, done in cooperation with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, says Smith, will be in the monies raised for research.
“What’s impactful is the money that we raise from our customers. They open their hearts and their wallets -- they buy pink lemonade onboard the aircraft. Last year we raised over $100,000 in a single month just on the small Song route system. This year we will get much better things from our customers,” said Smith. “When you see this airplane pull up to so many gates, I’m just excited for what we can accomplish.”
The aircraft, says Delta, will join the carrier’s worldwide fleet and will serve cities worldwide, carrying the breast cancer awareness message wherever it goes.
And as Breast Cancer Awareness month kicks off on October 1, Delta is not only showing its support with the outside of this airplane, but will also be selling model airplanes, t-shirts and other things coming down the road. 100 percent of the proceeds going to breast cancer research.
And check THIS out....ack (obsessed, I know)!

Not bad, but I like the pink Song scheme better.
Yes, me too....but I'm excited since I was expecting the repaint to only include some small commemorative decal or something. Though the tail on this one looks somewhat like a birthday present. I don't even care! Bravo for Pink Delta, woot woot!
Delta may be in a snag when it comes to actually managing an airline, but as far as employee morale and loyalty is concerned, I think they take the cake. :)
It really looks awesome...very modern. Almost reminds me of some of the special schemes they had floating around when the Olympics were in SLC.
Can't wait to see it in person!

That is just brilliant!
And sorry but I think that blows Pink Song out of hte water. I will actually try and GASP chase this plane!
