You know if there is a gas station or something on a corner of a block, and instead of waiting at the red light, you cut through the gas station to get to the other side of the block?
Anyone know the actual term for that violation?

Ooh, I was trying to figure this out just yesterday after you asked me last week.
It's "evasive" something....or something "evasion"
From the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Laws:
§ 1225. Avoiding intersection or traffic-control device. No person
shall drive across or upon a sidewalk, driveway, parking lot or private
property, or otherwise drive off a roadway, in order to avoid an
intersection or traffic-control device.
but what if you pull into the lot, stop for 3 seconds, adjust your mirror, and then proceed?
Man I could get a ticket every day for that I cut through the King Kullen every morning to avoid that light near my house!
Take a short cut Phil and get caught? Stay away from that toward the end of the month it is an easy mover to keep up on the numbers... ;-}
In New Jersey, it's "Driving on public or private property to avoid a traffic sign or signal." 2 points (which is 2 less than "improper passing of a frozen dessert truck."!)
