Beats the boring white ones. Weren't they using 4 all day?
For some reason, they switched to 13 for a short while. Shortly after that plane landed, they went back to using 4.
they switched to the localizer 31 approach due to the smoke from that fire in brooklyn. the smoke was cutting right across the approach path of ILS 4. i spoke to a few crews that said they had to break off the ILS, go around the smoke and then reaquire.
they were landing 31 and departing 4 well after my shift finished, which was 1330. airplanes arriving from the south were vectored around over LGA at about 800-10000 ft and then brought in for the localizer approach. an interesting day, that fire was the topic of choice on most of our conference calls this morning.
The plane came last night. The fire started this morning.
phil, do you know what time they switched back to 4 landings? the fire was mostly out by the time i got home around 1430.
The only information I know about was the night BEFORE the fire, when there was no fire and it was not a factor in runway usage.Quote:

I was there both Saturday and Sunday from about 3:30 to 5:30 and they were landing 4 at those times. There was a fire as well over the weekend in BK, as the smoke could be seen from plainview park. A seperate fire from the big one Mon-Tues in BK.
