BECAUSE THE SPACE PROGRAM IS FAKE, THESE SHOTS WERE TAKEN ON A HOLLYWOOD SOUND STAGE.

Just kidding, good question. I will speculate that the brightness of the sun reflecting off the shuttle and the earth throws off the contrast so distant bright objects are not visible.
