This morning I saw what looked to be a Delta 757-200 parked near Delta cargo, with a scheme I am not familiar with.
It was still dark, so I could not make out al the details, but it looked as though it had the typical new Delta logo tail. The front of the plane was white, and the back of the plane seemed to be dark blue, with the border between the two angling rearward from just forward of the wing.
Anyone know of any new aircraft? Is this known and I've just been out of the loop? Maybe it wasn't Delta, but something else....but looked like nothing I've seen in the past.

They have the 757.s parked there all the time, you can see the new color scheme with winglets almost daily. I passed by yesterday, and saw a New old color 757 there, without winglets. They might have changed aircraft since I left, I was there around 5-6pm.
You sure you didnt see one of these?

Phil, could it have been the Titan 757 that came in last night?

Yeah that looks like it! It was dark, but that two-tone pattern is exactly it.
Thanks!

Does anyone know why DL parks its planes in so many different places? Recently, I have seen them parked near Atlas, and U.S customs.

Unless DL has a dedicated spot away from the terminal such as a hangar or near their cargo building. They ( like Atlas ) are subject to whereever the PA wants you to park.
I know Atlas/Polar no longer use building 87 so we park wherever we can.. usually park at hangar 19 these days

Its not simply where the PA wants you to park its where there is room. Delta's operation at JFK is much larger then their facility can handle and at peak times there is simply no room at the hard stands near T2 and 3 for Delta to park their planes. Delta has more planes then gates at times and resort to using people movers to board and deplane aircraft. This summer at JFK looks like another busy and jammed packed season.

I've never seen the people movers in action at JFK recently...do they all "depart" from Gate 11 at terminal 3 or do some leave from 19a and b at Terminal 2? Also are they mainly interrnational flights they use the people movers for?
Sorry to go off-topic!

The people-movers over at DL are very much in use these days. Back in November, I boarded DL1681 JFK-FLL on an ex-TWA 757 (N703TW) that was parked behind gates 8/9 over by the KK entrance to the ramp. The lone 737-800 in new colors (N3744F) was actually parked next to us. We boarded the people-mover at gate 11, then drove over to the aircraft, "elevated" up to the door, and boarded the aircraft. I have not seen any of them over by T2 at all. It was actually a lot of fun, having not been on those since I was a kid. However, for a 7:15 PM departure, they were calling for "final boarding call" by 6:30, which I thought was odd, but I guess they need the extra time for the whole people-mover process. Also, to answer your question, they use the people-movers for domestic and int'l flights, wherever they are needed (though DL did have a bunch of gates open by 6:30, but I'm guessing that was after a bunch of internationals left).

I snapped this picture when I saw a people mover at T2--don't know what it was doing there...
