That is the video that everyone has been talking about that exists from that epic photo I think Chris Starnes took from SXM where the airplane nearly clipped the fence and touched down just short of the threshold.

Has anyone ever actually clipped the fence at SXM? Any damage beyond burst tires?

Is the runway so short that they need to cut it that close?

Nope it is just over seven grand. Plenty runway as long as it is uncontaminated.

As far as short runways go I have seen a DC-10 land on a runway that was something like 5 grand in lengtt. Below glideslope and a touchdown right at the hashes was done. It was a empty bird coming in to pick up a MAC at SRQ back in 2002 when I was a student.

The video looked windy, so there had to have been a weather related explanation for such a low approach.
Wow! I though that plane had the fence for sure!

Im waiting for the day we send one of our birds there, the runway is just over 7000' in length which is our minimum runway length for operating..

it is just over seven grand

Still not very long. It's like having 744's land at LGA.
