Volga-Dnepr Group and Boeing have signed a contract for the delivery of five new long-range Boeing 747-8F freighters, with an option for another five.

The first Boeing 747-8F is scheduled to join AirBridgeCargo Airlines in February 2010; the next four are due for delivery between 2011 and 2013.

The order is valued at $1.4 billion at list prices

Volga-Dnepr has also secured an option to buy another five Boeing 747-8Fs.

Boeing aircraft now account for around 90% of the global freighter fleet, with more than half of all existing international cargo capacities represented by Boeing 747 aircraft.

With this order, Volga-Dnepr becomes the seventh customer announced for the new 747-8 Freighter, joining Atlas Air, Cargolux, Emirates, Guggenheim Aviation Partners, Nippon Cargo Airlines and Korean Air.

Wow. That will be REALLY weird to see their scheme on an American aircraft.

More great news for the 747-8 project! Cargo is such a gold mine and Boeing really has captured the market! The Queen of the Sky lives on!
