VIDEO: Helicopter Crashes in Competition During Loop de Loop Attempt

An MD 500 helicopter at a competition in Belarus crashed Sunday, killing the pilot.

The crash took place at the 2010 CIS Open Cup in Helicopter Sport at Borovaya Airfield near Minsk this past weekend. Guenther Zimmer, at 74 years of age, was attempting a loop de loop in his chopper when he was unable to pull-up before striking the ground, causing the American-made helo to explode.

No spectators or other injuries were reported.

This second clip not only shows a different angle, but some of the impressive stunts that Mr. Zimmer was performing moments before the crash…
